Abstract

Georgios Nomikos. A Cretan Painter of the 17th century

Georgios Nomikos, who originated from the island of Crete, lived and worked in the last quarter of the 17th and in the beginning of the 18th century in the islands of Cephalonia and Zakynthos, and in the mainland of Arta and Ioannina. The brief historical overview that precedes means to affiliate the painter’s work with its social and economic context. Furthermore, the detailed analysis of six of his surviving portable icons, four signed and two attributed merit an array of observations concerning the painter’s artistic prototypes and style.
