The byzantine monastery of Panaghia Peribleptos contribution to the monumental topography of the byzantine town of Arta
Abstract
The Byzantine monastery of the Virgin Peribleptos in Arta is a monument only sporadically mentioned in the sources, i.e. the letters of bishop Apokaukos. However, the synthesis of the extant historical information of both the 13th and of later centuries, along with the archaeological data allow the identification of its topographical location to that of the church of the Presentation of the Virgin-St. Merkourios on the hill of the Metropolis.
