Abstract

The katholikon of the monastery of Kleinon is an Athonite triconch type with a cross-in-square of the two-columns or tetrastyle plan variation in terms of its vaulting and dome support. At its west it has a two-domed narthex. The eastern and western compartments are covered with vaults towards the transverse axis of the building and the west cross arm with an elevated blind shallow dome. The mural paintings and the templon of the church date from the middle of the 18th till the early 19th century. On the lintel above the entrance there is a trilingual inscription and on the conch of the diakonikon a lengthy inscription with the vita of the bishop of Stagon Paisios II.
