Abstract

The Byzantine church of Saint Theodora, formerly the katholikon of a monastery of St. George, is located in the centre of Arta. The church is now dedicated to St. Theodora, daughter of John Petraleiphas and wife of the despot Michael II Komnenos Doukas. Its templon screen had been the subject of scholarly research in the past, however, from a recent research and from the technical works undertaken in the church new evidence came to light concerning its templon screen. The templon, both with parts in second use and original ones made in the second half of the 13th century according to their style, must have been built after 1268 when Theodora became a nun to the aforementioned monastery.
