Abstract

The dedicatory inscription of the church of St George Pachymachiotes, in the town of Lindos on Rhodes, dated 1394/5, makes reference to the Emperor Manuel II Palaiologos as well as to its founders, the priest Katsambas and his wife Kali, the magistrissa. This information allows us to comment on the historical and social framework of the period, as well as on the iconographic programme of the church with its high-quality wall-paintings.
