Copies of lost early Christian, Byzantine and post-Byzantine work in the collection of the Byzantine and Christian Museum
Abstract
Copies of lost early Christian, Byzantine and post-Byzantine works from small churches in Attica and from Saint Demetrios in Thessaloniki are presented. These copies, now in the Collection of the Byzantine and Christian Museum, were created in the early decades of the 20th century in order to preserve for future generations the appearance of the originals at risk of being lost forever. This aim was successfully achieved.
