Abstract

The Vision in the 7th chapter of the Book of Daniel is rarely represented during the Byzantine period. Conversely, in the post-Byzantine years elements of it are depicted quite often, whether individually or within representations of the Second Coming. In fact, in certain cases the prophet is shown as a visionary of the Second Advent. It is proposed that this ‘sudden’ dissemination should be interpreted in relation to the dissemination that the eschatological texts attributed to Daniel, the so-called Visions/ Oraseis, received after 1453.
