Construction and psychometric evaluation of a self-report scale to assess the teachers' efficiency beliefs in the teaching of reading
Abstract
The main goal of this research is the construction and psychometric evaluation of a self-report scale called "Sense of Teaching Effectiveness in Reading (STER)". This tool aims to assess the teachers' efficiency beliefs in the teaching of reading based on the socio-knowledge theory of Bandura's self-efficacy.
The development of the scale included the check of its construct validity and assessing its reliability. As a result, a reliable and valid two-factor scale emerged. The constituent elements include the criteria of sense of teaching self-sufficiency and the sense of effectiveness in influencing the expected outcomes. As a final, instructions for scoring the instrument are given as well as suggested ways to interpret its results.
