Primary and secondary school principals' satisfaction with the adequasy of operational and maintainance funds for their schools
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to explore school principals’ satisfaction regarding the funding of operational and maintenance costs in their schools in the post-memoranda era, after the imposition of financial measurements. The study adopts a quantitative methodology design using a forced-answer questionnaire. The sample includes 852 Primary and Secondary school principals from all over Greece. The results indicate that the principals’ degree of satisfaction varies from medium to low because the allocated funds could partially cover only urgent needs. Variations have also been detected depending on respondents’ gender, type and level of school. The study offers updated and extensive evidence from the field in regard to the underfunding of schools.
