“The Other as Self and the Self as Other: From dialogic understanding to reflective action and assessment awareness”
Abstract
“The Other as Self and the Self as Other: From dialogic understanding to reflective action and assessment awareness” was a cultural programme which aimed at inquiring and accepting diversity, in the light of the Convention on Children’s Right, through art and culture in a multicultural environment, with the participation of artists and animators. Children living in three different cities participated in the programme expressing themselves artistically on how they see other places, through drama/theatre, art crafts and digital technology. The interpretative activities of the educators focused on enabling children to encounter the Other and the Self, through the study of historic and contemporary cultural artefacts. Having as an intercultural criterion the viewing of the “other aspect”, the programme, which lasted for three months (acad. year 2021-2022), created an intercultural synergy among three museums in three European cities: a. Alexandroupolis, a city in the borderland of Greece, which connects Europe and Asia (Historical Museum of Alexandroupolis), b. Athens, the birthplace of the European culture (National Museum of Contemporary Art) and c. Brussels, the chair of European Union (House of European History).
