Abstract
In the late Byzantine revetments of icons from the Athonite monastery of Vatopedi we find small icons with relief busts of saints. These small icons made of thin sheets of silver, worked in high or low relief who decorated the frames of the icons' revetments offer the possibility to approach the religious figural sculpture of the Palaiologan period. The study of this material proves that the microsculpture follows the sculpture of the time, and we can approach the second through the first.
