Abstract

In the Byzantine Museum of Kastoria a portable icon of Christ as Pantokrator is a work of unknown provenance. The icon depicts the Christ Pantokrator in a frontal pose holding an open book on his left hand while blessing with the right one; on each side above his shoulders two medals are placed each of which has the busts of Virgin and St. John the Baptist respectively. The iconographic and stylistic analysis of the icon suggests that the latter is a work from an artistic workshop of Kastoria and can be dated at the last quarter of the 14th to the beginning of 15th century.
