Abstract
Two despotic icons kept in the church of St. Demetrius at Athytos of Chalkidiki of which the first bears the signature of the painter Daniel and the second the date either 1593/4 or 1603/4 where the point of departure to re-examine four more icons from the Sacristy of the monastery of Dionysiou on Mount Athos which can be attributed to the same painter. Furthermore, from the eponymous works of Daniel should be excluded the painted decoration of the church of the Virgin Portarea at Portaria of Pelion. Daniel as a painter, after he became a monk at the monastery of Dionysiou, was influenced by the work of other painters active there.
