Abstract

The wall-paintings in the church of St Anne at Anisaraki near Kandanos in Creteis the most extent surviving cycle of the life of this saint in Byzantine monumental painting. It is the work of two painters, of differing artistic competence, of the circle of Ioannis Pagomenos, and are dated, in accordance with a new reading of the dedicatory inscription, to 1352. The representation of nine donors in the west part of the small church enriches our knowledge of costume preferences in this period.
