Abstract

The wall paintings of the church of Panagia at Kadros represent a significant provincial art form from the period of Venetian rule in Western Crete. Close scrutiny of the iconography, style and technique assigns to them a position among the works of the “school” of Ioannis Pagomenos, determines their artists, traces the limited Western and Crusader influences – mainly in iconography –, and dates them around 1335.
