Abstract
This paper outlines and critically interrogates a multicultural educational environment of preschool age in Spain and more specifically in the Basque Country area. Drawing upon the relevant literature, as well as on research data obtained from a participant observation study, we outline the specific cultural conditions and the associated policies prevailing in the region before turning to an analysis of micro interactions between teachers, children and community. The purpose of this study is to identify a range of both 'good practice' and constraints that may arise during the implementation of intercultural teaching aiming at empowering a diverse student population.
