The influence of pilgrimage on the type of the churches of the monastery of Hosios Loukas (Abstract)
Abstract
The presentation examines the information cited in the Vita of Hosios Loukas that can be related with the traffic of the pilgrims in and out of the monastic complex of the church of the Virgin (or Saint Barbara) right before the erection of the katholikon. In this regard several of the annexes are being interpreted under this spectrum; the upper galleries, the lite, the portico and the vaulted corridor that was leading to the relics of Hosios. Later modifications that appeared after the relics of Hosios were transferred to the West and the pilgrimage to the ciborium weakened should be related to the modern periods of the monastery.
