The church of St George at Stamna
Abstract
In this article the author presents the unpublished and ruined church of Saint George at Stamna in Aetolia. The church was a single nave with a timber roof. At its east end has a semi-hexagonal apse and at its west it had a later narthex. The only fragments surviving from its painted decoration are the mural paintings of the bema; at the conch there is a depiction of the Virgin holding a medallion of Christ and flanked by two archangels dressed in imperial robes, on the hemicycle of two officiating bishops and on the face of the conch there are traces from the Holy Mandylion.
