An early cretan icon of the Dormition of the Virgin, in the Iviron monastery
Abstract
The article discusses an icon with the Dormition of the Virgin which is kept in the monastery of Iviron on Mount Athos. The icon with its austere iconographic scheme follows the Late Palaiologan prototypes, while its style resembles that of works that were produced by the workshop of Andreas Ritzos. Thus, according to the above evidence, the icon can be attributed to Andreas Ritzos or his workshop and be dated in the second half of the 15th century.
